India Debates Tokenization Bill to Democratize Real Estate Investment
Indian lawmakers are clashing over legislation that could fractionalize high-value assets through blockchain tokens. The proposed Tokenization Bill, championed by MP Raghav Chadha, aims to replicate India's UPI payments revolution in capital markets by enabling micro-investments in real estate and infrastructure.
Currently, 90% of middle-class wealth remains trapped in low-yield instruments like bank deposits. Tokenization could unlock participation in asset classes that have historically delivered 12-15% annual returns. Parliament's debate centers on whether digital ownership structures will retain capital domestically while complying with financial regulations.
